ID4Africa Movement has unveiled the campaign for its 6th meeting scheduled to hold in Marrakesh, Morocco, from June 2-4, with the launch of the event website: www.id4africaevents.com/2020
Morocco was announced as host country for the Movement’s six meeting and conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, during the fifth meeting last June.
Executive Chairman of the ID4Africa Movement, Dr. Joseph Atick had announced the selection of Morocco as host country for its 6th Annual Meeting, indicating that the event will be staged on June 2-4 at the Mövenpick Hotel Mansour Eddahbi & Palais des Congrès, Marrakesh, and will be hosted by the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Morocco.
The announcement followed a ceremonial session, a highly anticipated annual tradition, where the Movement announces the host country for the succeeding year’s event, on the final day of its current annual meeting.
Dr. Atick had stated: “we are very excited to be in Morocco for our 6th year, a country where identity development is at a high pace and exemplifies our 2020 theme – Identity 360.
“ID4Africa
2020 will engage a multi-view perspective on identity that will bring into
focus the various stakeholders involved in the identity ecosystem, and their
complementary perspectives”.
The selection of the host country goes through a competitive process that takes
into consideration many factors including the country’s infrastructure, as well
as its political will and overall engagement in reforming its identification
practices to provide identity-for-all.
In an acceptance speech on behalf of the government of Morocco, Mr. Omar El
Alami, Head of Information Systems, Strategy Division at the Ministry of
Interior, the Moroccan government stated:
“The Kingdom of Morocco is truly honoured to host the 6th Annual Meeting of the ID4Africa Movement in 2020. We are delighted to be part of the ID4Africa Movement which contributes tremendously to the development of digital identity ecosystems in the service of economic development and social inclusion.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Interior, we would like to extend warm hospitalities to all of you to take part in ID4Africa 2020. We are humbled by the gesture and to be receiving you in our beloved country.”
ID4Africa is an ID-4-All (Identity for All) Movement that accompanies African nations on their journey to develop robust and responsible ID ecosystems around legal and digital identity in the service of development and humanitarian action.
It is a tripartite with representation from African governments, international agencies and the private sector whose aim is to assess progress, share experiences and best practices, identify open challenges, reinforce institutional capacity and establish the priorities for the African identity community.
The Movement, founded in 2014, holds an annual meeting in a host African country each year. The inaugural meeting held in Tanzania in 2015 followed by annual meetings in Rwanda, Namibia, while the fourth meeting was hosted by Nigeria through the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
