The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, Mohammed Bello has described the Digital Switch-Over (DSO) project in the broadcast industry as a critical component for the effective regulation of the broadcast sector in Nigeria, saying its implementation should be given maximum priority.
Speaking during a meeting with officials of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) led by its Director-General Ishaq Modibbo Kawu, Bello expressed satisfaction that the global recognition of the excellent technology deployed in Nigeria’s DSO project was a primary source of confidence in the success of achieving qualitative innovations of the project for the benefit of the country.
Bello urged the NBC to go ahead with implementing the measures in the sixth edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which are aimed at protecting citizens and institutions from unprofessional broadcasters that spread hate speech with the potential to disrupt peaceful coexistence. Responding, the NBC Director-General, Kawu, thanked the Minister for his diligence and commitment to result-oriented administration and to making the FCT function to meet the people’s expectations.
