Gabon to host ITU Symposium for Regulators

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has announced Gabon as host of this year’s ITU’s annual Global Symposium for Regulators, the world’s pre-eminent gathering of the global ICT regulatory community.

According to information from the ITU made available to IT & Telecom Digest April 20, the event will take place from June 9-11 in Libreville and it is at the invitation of the Government of Gabon.

The symposium welcomes world-class speakers with a dynamic programme focused around hot topics challenging today’s ICT regulators. It will be chaired by Mr. Lin Mombo, President of the Autorité de Régulation des communications Electroniques et des Postes (ARCEP), and hosted under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Gabon, Mr. Ali Bongo Ondimba.

The year’s programme includes compelling discussions and debates around:

*‘mobile money’ – the emerging world of digital financial services;

*the ‘Internet of Everything’ – challenges and opportunities;

*innovative strategies to promote digital inclusion and e-accessibility

*taxation and the digital economy

*network-sharing business models

*the impact of regulation on broadband uptake

*investment strategies

*interoperability in the digital ecosystem

The first two days of the symposium comprise the Global Regulators-Industry Dialogue (GRID, 9-10 June), and are open to regulators, policy makers and members of ITU’s Development Sector.

The third day (11 June) is a closed session open to regulators and policy makers only.
