Safera to Launch Smart Cooking Sensor at IFA 2019

…product could revolutionise cooking in the world

By MKPE ABANG

Cooking assumes a whole new dimension as Safera, an Espoo, Finland based company, is set to launch a revolutionary first-of-its-kind smart cooking sensor at IFA 2019 in Berlin, Germany.

Yes, it’s a revolutionary product when one considers how cooking is an everyday activity in all homes, all the year round.

And, in this daily activity comes the dangers of fires from forgetfulness or carelessness leading to loss of lives and damage to property of unimaginable magnitude in many instances.

Like finally answering the call of homes globally, Safera says this is the “first complete smart cooking sensor,” and reminds us all of our human frailties which often than not conspire to cause fires upon fires in the cooking chambers.

For many who may not know, Espoo is also home of Nokia, once the leading mobile phone maker in the world, thus it is not so strange that out of the same area comes this company that brings a new chapter to cooking – the ultimate every day activity in all homes.

“We all forget things once in a while,” is the subtle yet very apt pointer from Safera. “We can even forget things on the stove.” Many can easily recall how they’ve burnt foods owing to forgetfulness, and are many times very fortunate when the results are not more than the harsh odours that hit their nostrils from the burnt foods.

Safera is pioneering the “preventive fire safety”, the company boasts with its product, which is set to hit public glare particularly at the IFA 2019 event.

But realising how important it is to give the public globally – which must be waiting for this product – a foretaste of what is to come, Safera is taking an initial important step by joining the league of select sponsors whose products will premiere and be previewed at the IFA Global Press Conference (GPC) 2019 set hold at Andalusia, Spain, this April, to unveil the product to a select group of tech journalists.

The IFA GPC is a special programme hosted by the organisers of the IFA, wherein they gather technology journalists from around the world in one location, to take a peek preview of the IFA, reputed a the world’s most important technology marketplace. This year’s IFA holds from September 4 to 11, at the Messegelände Berlin ExpoCenter City, Berlin, Germany.

The IFA GPC 2019, which is set to host over 400 technology journalists from across the world, is the appropriate platform for Safera to first talk about the product, which indeed is set to change the way cooking is done in homes globally.

Never again will one’s forgetfulness lead to that unwanted fire – provided the Safera smart cooking sensor is installed in the home.

“With our intelligent stove guard we can practically eliminate cooking fires that are the No. 1 cause of home fires,” the company boasts, and stated “Our mission is to ensure that no more lives will be lost to cooking fires. We also want to make sure that people of all ages can enjoy safe cooking at all points of their life.”

How the product works

Safera cooking sensor senses hazards that people can’t. The company says Safera Stove Guard “is the most effective solution to prevent cooking fires” because it “senses danger in advance and cuts off the cooker power before the fire ignites.”

Safera stove guard is available either pre-installed in the extractor hood or as a product to be installed separately, and all Safera Stove Guards are EN 50615 certified, according to the company.

This is how Safera stove guard works: Safera monitors stove temperature, power consumption, human presence, and prevents cooking fires.

No activity is required from the user once the product is installed in the cooking area or kitchen. The alarm is triggered only in hazardous situations, and if necessary the stove is turned off by the product!

And, what more, the product does not interfere with everyday cooking, hence the Safera smart cooking sensor is said to be “the most effective way to prevent cooking fires.”

Because the stove is believed to be the number one cause for home fires, the groups highest at risk of cooking fires, as identified by Safera, are students and the elderly.

“Accident is caused by human error – not a failure of electronics,” the company asserts. “The kitchen cooktop is the leading cause for household fires. There is a very reasonable argument as to why stoves cause so many accidents. They are often left unsupervised while on, and forgotten to be turned off after cooking,” explains Safera.

According to the company, an unsupervised stove can set an object or food on fire, which can spread from the kitchen and throughout the entire apartment. Therefore, the accident is caused by human error and not a malfunction of the cooker. People who most commonly make these errors are busy students, people who suffer from memory illness, and the elderly.

And the smart Safera Stove Guard has therefore come to eliminate the No. 1 cause of home fires.

“The most effective way to prevent cooking-related fires is to install a Safera Stove Guard. Safera Stove Guard is a two-piece device that monitors stove temperature and cuts off the cooker power before a fire ignites. Safera recognises when cooking is done safely, and gives an alarm or shuts down the power supply if the temperature rises dangerously high – especially if the user has left the stove unsupervised,” the company stated.

And, why does Safera think students and elderly people are at highest risk?

“There is very reasonable explanation. Students have a very hectic and often stressful lifestyle. Constant hustle and stress cause students to make scatter-brained blunders – even with the most common of household chores.

“This becomes substantial when a stove is not turned off after cooking. Students also have a habit of having long nights out, which often end in cooking midnight snacks. Late night cooking can come to an unpleasant end if the student falls asleep and the stove is left on.

“The elderly and people who suffer from memory illness might also completely forget to turn off the stove after cooking,” Safera reasoned.

Practical and invisible

Safera Stove Guard is practically invisible and won’t interfere with everyday cooking because it recognises human presence. Safera monitors stove temperature and power consumption, and also understands the consistencies (or lack of) in human behaviour in the kitchen.

If the stove temperature is rising dangerously high, it will first give an alarm signal, and will quickly signal the power control unit to cut the power off. The power is off before anything can catch fire.

“Stove Guard is great life insurance for a student or elderly person. The installation is very fast, and the product requires no other maintenance than switching the sensor unit’s batteries, which can last up to four years,” says Safera. Safera Stove Guard is compatible with most common electric stoves. The device has been designed to look simple and stylish. It is easy to use, and can fit all homes.
