The Vodafone Group said it would hand over the management of its Ghana unit to its South African division, Vodacom, this April.
These are the latest steps that are being taken to bring the company’s operations in Africa under one roof.
Vodacom will now take responsibility for the Ghana business as well as other units including South Africa, Mozambique, Democratic Republic of Congo and Tanzania, according to CEO Shameel Joosub.
Joosub added that Vodafone Ghana would keep its branding and there would be no transfer of assets from its UK parent.
The move marks Vodafone’s second change to its Africa operations in 2020.
The company part is hoping to simplify the global carrier and focus management attention on the fiercely competitive European markets.
Last month the company agreed to sell its Egyptian division to Saudi Telecom for $2.4bn to focus on the Sub-Saharan region.
Vodacom has also shown interest in Ethiopia’s upcoming privatisation of its state-owned phone monopoly, which would involve the auction of two licences and the sale of minority shared in Ethio Telecom later in 2020.
Joosub said that he expects an information memorandum to be issued between April and May and the deals to be concluded in June.
