Young Innovators Hold NITIEXA for SDGs Success

...aim to use technology to fast-track Nigeria’s growth

The Young Innovators of Nigeria (YIN) has taken on the campaign to help Nigeria achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations.

YIN, a social organisation focused on bridging the skills and entrepreneurial gap among youths in Information and communication Technology (ICT), is launching the campaign through an event it is organising, the Nigerian Technology Innovations Exhibition and Awards (NITIEXA).

The NITIEXA 2018, with the theme “The Role of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” is the maiden edition, and holds at the PTDF Auditorium, Abuja, on December 6 and 7.

A statement by Mr. Andrew Abu, President of the YIN, said Nigeria being a country “filled with talents and various opportunities with technology and innovations at the peak, NITIEXA 2018 is aimed at recognising key players in the ICT sector and those who have, and are using technology to drive SDGs.”

SDGs are a collection of 17 global goals set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015. The SDGs are part of Resolution 70/1 of the United Nations General Assembly: “Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” that has been shortened to “2030 Agenda.”

The YIN president stated further that the organisation will use the event to unveil start-ups “who are leveraging on technology to solve problems especially as it relates to the SDGs, increasing awareness on SDGs and provide a platform where stakeholders can strategize on ways in which we can leverage technology to drive these goals.”

The organisers say the event presents a platform for captains of industry, government functionaries, private sector operators, financial institutions, research institutions, technology experts, and non-governmental organisations to connect and share knowledge with the aim to fast-tract the attainment of SDGs Agenda 2030 and to diversify the economy and create decent jobs.

NITIEXA 2018 is proudly endorsed and supported by IT & Telecom Digest, Africa’s foremost ICT publishing powerhouse, having pioneering specialised reporting in ICT and innovation and published since January 2000.
