Computer Village Agog as TECNO Lights Up Communities

In what could be described as one of the biggest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects in the ICT industry, leading mobile manufacturer, TECNO Mobile thrown the entire Computer Village into ecstasy as it launched its ‘Light Up Ikeja’ Project, which began with three communities housing the biggest technology market in Africa.

The CSR initiative targeted at providing solar powered street lights across Nigeria was unveiled with 88 units of solar-powered street lights covering Ogunbiyi, Anifowoshe and Anibiyi communities all within the ikeja environ.  The aim of beginning the CSR project with Ikeja, according to the company, is to foster a better business atmosphere and security in and around the electronics market at night.

Speaking on the Project, the Managing Director Tecno Nigeria, Mr Chidi Okonkwo, noted that  “in the past we’ve seen streetlight projects fail but this particular TECNO streetlight project  cannot fail because we understand to what extent the use of substandard materials and quack engineering can damage brilliant ideas and dent a company’s image taken years to build. So to avoid this pitfall, TECNO has used the best solar-power and LED technology from a leading Chinese multinational iFLUX lighting company to execute the Ikeja streetlight project”.

Okonkwo assured the community that every resource at his company’s disposal was deployed to secure the best materials for the project, adding that “We cannot jeopardize a long running relationship of mutual respect between TECNO and our host by commissioning a bogus project in the presence of Nigeria’s leading media houses.”

The community leaders and market leaders present at the launch were full of praises for TECNO for the laudable project, while urging other big players in the industry to emulate the good gestures of the mobile company. The Honourable Commissioner for Science and Technology in Lagos State, Mr Femi Odubiyi, who represented the State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode,  also commended TECNO for the great initiative. According to him, the project would no doubt boost social and economic activities in the computer village, a tech market which plays significant role in the Nigerian economy.
